The Eastern South Police Command has arrested a Nigerian suspected of killing who was hiding out at Akyem Wenchi in the Denkyembour district of the Eastern region.
The 26-year-old suspect, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, is alleged to have killed a Road Safety Corps and her daughter at Abeokuta in Nigeria before fleeing into Ghana to evade arrest.
Addressing the media, the Eastern South Commander, DCOP George Ohene-Boadi Bossman, said the suspect will be processed and handed over to security authorities in Nigeria for further investigation and prosecution.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as frantic efforts are underway to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities. The 26-year-old suspect, Victor Benjamin Fejemikum, allegedly abducted and murdered the female Road Safety Corps officer and her daughter at Abeokuta in the Ogun State of Nigeria. A viral video intercepted by the police aided his arrest.”
He added that “the Eastern South Police Regional Command, upon receiving intelligence that the suspect was hiding in a friend’s house, deployed an intelligence-led operation which led to his arrest at his hideout at Akyem Wenchi.”
DCOP Ohene-Boadi Bossman urged the public to report any suspicious movements or activities within their communities.
“We are entreating the public, as a matter of urgency, to inform the police about suspicious movements of any person or group of persons in their communities to help prevent crime. We assure the public of sustained operations to deal with criminal activities within the jurisdiction,” he said.
Several mining host communities in the Eastern region have recorded an influx of immigrants, many of whom are undocumented.
The Eastern South commander Ohene-Boadi Bossman warned in collaboration with allied security agencies, they will crack down on illegal immigrants and criminals.
“We are not going to sit in our comfort zones. We have intensified our patrols and intelligence operations through the Police Intelligence Directorate and the Criminal investigative Department. We have made several arrests as a result of these intelligence led operations. We will get them,” he pointed out.
