The Alliance for Western North Cocoa Farmers in the Western North region has declared its support for the government and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) over the recent reduction in cocoa prices.
Speaking at a press conference, the leader of the group, Annor Teye, said the farmers understand that the decline in global cocoa prices has affected production worldwide, including Ghana.
“Although farmers are not entirely happy about the reduction, we believe the government is taking steps to stabilize the cocoa sector and protect the future of the industry,” Mr. Teye stated.
He also appealed to the government to investigate long-standing allegations of mismanagement within COCOBOD, which he said continue to affect the sector’s performance.
“We want the government to probe those responsible for any financial misconduct so that offenders are brought to justice. That’s the only way cocoa farmers can regain full trust in the system,” he added.
Some members of the Alliance also voiced their backing for the government’s decision. They acknowledged that while the price cut has affected their earnings, they believe it is a necessary step to help revive COCOBOD’s financial health.
The farmers further thanked the government for continuing to release funds to ensure timely payment for their produce.
