Officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Monday 3rd June 2024 embarked on operation to clear traders and jonkies who have taken over bus stops and pavements around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange (formerly circle).

The operation was led by David Aboagye who is the Sub Metro Director of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

In an interview with the Accra NADMO Director, Samuel Okine, he stated that “the bus stop and the pavement is for pedestrians and not for traders and Jonkies.”

He further said “most of the traders have done illegal electricity connections which can cause fire.”

Mr Okine added that “this is not the first time we’re embarking on this exercise, but they come back immediately we leave. From today, we’ll come more often because ‘Circle’ has to be neat and tidy”.
