The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has advised all Ghanaian pilgrims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage between 1st May and 20th May 2026 that Hajj is a sacred spiritual obligation and must be observed as such.

The Embassy reminded the pilgrims that this important journey must be undertaken in full compliance with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued on April 22, the Embassy said, “Pilgrims are therefore expected to conduct themselves as law-abiding citizens and responsible ambassadors of Ghana, safeguarding the hard-earned reputation of our nation at all times.”

“The Embassy wishes to place on record a firm and unequivocal warning that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enforces strict laws on drug-related offences and financial crimes, including money laundering. Any individual found in possession, trafficking, or concealment of prohibited drugs, or involved in any illicit activity, will be subject to immediate arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties under Saudi law.”

The Embassy said it will not countenance any conduct that seeks to tarnish the image of Ghana.

“Any person who engages in such acts will bear full personal responsibility for the consequences,” it noted.

It added that, “Pilgrims are strongly advised to exercise utmost vigilance and avoid any association with individuals who may attempt to involve them in illegal activities. Carrying luggage, money, or items on behalf of others without proper knowledge and verification may expose individuals to serious legal consequences.”

The Embassy further cautioned against attempting to perform Hajj through unauthorized means, including the use of visiting visas or illegal travel arrangements.

“Such actions constitute a violation of Saudi laws and will result in arrest, detention, prosecution, deportation, and possible long-term or permanent entry bans,” it stated.

All pilgrims are therefore directed to:

  • Travel strictly through approved and recognized Hajj arrangements
  • Ensure that all travel documents are valid and specifically issued for Hajj purposes
  • Refrain from carrying money, luggage, or items on behalf of third parties without proper verification
  • Demonstrate patriotism by obeying constituted authorities and adhering to laid-down procedures
  • Conduct themselves with discipline, responsibility, and dignity, reflecting the values of Ghana

“The Embassy remains committed to ensuring a safe, orderly, and spiritually fulfilling Hajj for all Ghanaian pilgrims and wishes all travelers a safe journey and a successful pilgrimage in advance,”the statement signed by Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Said Sinare noted.
