Former Presidential Spokesperson, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has commended the Mahama administration for the effort it is making to take over Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s residence in Guinea.

On Wednesday, January 20, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that on the instructions of President John Mahama, they have initiated negotiations with the Sékou Touré family of Guinea to allow Ghana take possession of the house where Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah lived and worked as the Co-President of Guinea in his last years.

Mr Ablakwa said that the Mahama Administration intends to renovate and preserve Nkrumah’s Guinea residence not only as an act of respect but also to preserve the Osagyefo’s legacy.

It will also create a full experience for tourists to follow Nkrumah’s outstanding life from Ghana to Guinea.

This landmark decision was conveyed to the Sékou Touré family on Saturday when Vice President, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led us to visit the Sékou Touré family and also tour Nkrumah’s abandoned home after the investiture of President Mamady Doumbouya, the Minister wrote on his X page.

He said Ghana’s delegation was well-received by three generations of the Sékou Touré family, led by his eldest son.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is negotiating the terms and conditions and engaging preservation experts for this important assignment. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the Ghanaian public shall be fully apprised at every stage. Nkrumah never dies,” he said.

Reacting to this on his  X page, Koku Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said “An official announcement has been made by President Mahama via his Foreign Minister that Villa Nkrumah, the residence of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah lived as Co-President in Guinea, is to be taken over by Ghana in memory and honour of Osagyefo. Great news!! Thank God my advocacy has worked. Ghana First.”

He added “Very, very good news that President Mahama has directed his Foreign Minister to kick-in processes for Ghana to get Guinea to release, Kwame Nkrumah Villa (residence of Nkrumah when he was co-President in Guinea  with Ahmed Sekou Toure from March 1966 – April 1972 when he died), for renovation and restoration to honour the memory of Osagyefo. Just watch and listen to my final statement when I visited Villa Nkrumah in December 2025, when I was on ECOWAS elections assignment, and run a series of clips on how Nkrumah lived his days in exile. All glory to God and glad that the Government of Ghana  is doing the needful. Some of us will always keep the National interest above personal interest. Ayekoo!”
