The son of the late John Evans Atta Mills has lashed out at former Presidential Spokesperson Samuel Koku Anyidoho for seemingly living contrary to the ideals of his late father.
Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, October 28, 2024, said he has been disappointed with how a so-called mentee of his father has behaved, citing the feud that characterised the 12th anniversary of the death of his father at the Asomdwee Park.
During that ceremony at the Asomdwee Park in Accra, two families of the late president clashed at the venue.
Atta Mills’ matrilineal family head joined the Koku Anyidoho-organised ceremony while a delegation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) joined the late leader’s patrilianeal family, whose head is Dr. Cadman Atta Mills.
Speaking to Captain Smart, the only son of the former President said he only knows Dr. Cadman Atta Mills as the Abusuapanyin of his late dad’s family.
He, however, assured that behind-the-scene talks are ongoing to resolve the matter.
Sam Atta Mills, however, questioned the loyalty of Koku Anyidoho, who he says appears to have joined forces with members of a political party that bastardised his father while he was alive.
“I also think it’s okay for people to sulk for the rest of their lives because that is how they decide to deal with it but when you start acting out of character to the person that you are eulogising by starting to now become a threat to his attributes. . . .and go against all of the things that we are talking about, then you have to take away the name Atta Mills because at that point you are putting the name Atta Mills into disrepute.
“This is President Mills who at the time Koku Anyidoho was Communications Director was the same person that when President Mills was being abused by the opposition party. . .they were wearing black to Parliament, showing him red card that you as Communications Director was fighting them.
“Today they are your friends. It shows that you don’t have any principles.”
Kofi Sam Atta Mills admitted that he didn’t know his father like he should have but the annual memorial lectures have helped him to appreciate the late President the more.
