Ghanaians would not be this calm if they knew the enormity of how poor the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has governed the State the last 8 years, Samuel Atta Mills, has stated.

The son of Ghana’s former late President, John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, says the amount of money this government has borrowed to balloon the country’s debt stock is astonishing.

According to him, despite President Akufo-Addo’s “yɛte sika so…” comments suggesting Ghana has all the money it needs here, he can’t fathom why the government has borrowed beyond reasonableness leaving the State in mountains of debts.

He tells Captain Smart on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, October 28, 2024, that the amount of money this government borrowed with its corresponding output in terms of projects is very disappointing.

Atta Mills was speaking on the performance of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Vice President, having become the flag bearer of the NPP to contest the 2024 elections.

“When I see the amount of money that has been borrowed by this government despite telling us that “yɛte sika so…”, we have the money here, we don’t need to borrow, and a whole lot of comments, it is really disappointing.

“If you go to the villages and see people there in poverty and telling the people they owe over GHC20,000 each [if you share Ghana debt with the population], then it’s really disappointing. If we know how bad the situation is, we wouldn’t be this calm,” he stated.
