Youth and business owners in the Aowin Municipality have taken to the streets in protest against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the predominant telecommunications network in the area, accusing both institutions of poor service delivery and unfair treatment.

The demonstrators, clad in red and black, marched through the principal streets of the municipality, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Fix ECG Now,” “Stable Network for Businesses,” and “We Deserve Better Services.”

According to the protesters, persistent power outages and unstable mobile network connectivity have severely affected their businesses and daily livelihoods.

Some traders say they incur huge losses due to frequent electricity cuts, which damage electrical appliances and disrupt business operations.

Others also expressed frustration over what they described as unreliable telephone network services, especially during peak business hours.

“We depend on electricity and internet for our daily sales. When the lights go off or the network fails, we lose money,” one protester lamented.

The group is therefore calling on ECG to ensure a more stable power supply and on the telecomms company to improve network coverage and service quality in the area.

They also urged authorities to intervene and hold the service providers accountable to the needs of the people.

The demonstration remained largely peaceful, with security personnel present to maintain law and order.
