Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto may be on his way out of Asante Kotoko judging by his utterances about the club.

Just a week after saying Kotoko’s Adako Jachie training ground is unbefitting of a big club because players ease themselves in bushes, he has made a controversial statement that is expected to irk Kotoko’s large fan base.

According to the former Black Stars coach, Kotoko is only a big name and not a big team, as they are usually referred to.

“I know Asante Kotoko fans won’t be happy with this but I must say it,” Barreto said in an interview with Nhyira FM.

“Asante Kotoko is only a big name and not a not a big team because they lack so many things a big team should be having.

“A big team should be having their own physiotherapy room, a strong youth team, philosophy, video room amongst other infrastructure.”

Kotoko appointed Barreto in March with the hope that his experience would help the club win the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup.

But, after a great start, his side suffered a dip in form and that saw them lose the top spot in the league to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak and get kicked out of the cup competition at the quarterfinal stage by Berekum Chelsea.

3news.com understands that Kotoko management are not convinced of allowing him to lead the team for next season.
