Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the President of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) of engaging in partisan politics.

He says the former occupant of the office, Togbe Afede XIV, was ousted from the role and over to the current President for political reasons.

The NDC’s National Chair says he saw the President of the revered House of Chiefs in an NDC paraphernalia when he last visited his hometown.

.General Mosquito’, as he is known in the political circles claims the chief was in the dress during a campaign trail.

“I went to his hometown, and he was wearing shorts and an NPP T-shirt on the campaign field,” he said in an engagement with chiefs and residents of Konongo Odumase in the Ashanti region Sunday, November 10, 2024.

He said the ousting of Togbe Afede was to replace him with a stooge of the NPP to aid advance the cause of the party.

He claimed the machinations started from the eminent chief’s rejection of the emoluments that were given him as President of the National House of Chief.

“Togbe Afede was voted out of office because he rejected the exgratia given to him; this is the crime he committed,” he stated.

According to him, the ongoing impasse in Parliament would have been resolved by the House if not for politics.

He specifically chastised the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, for allegedly engaging in overly partisan politics, which could he noted could tarnish the reputation of the chieftaincy institution.

He questioned the NHC president’s ability to criticise the NPP government, citing his active involvement in partisan politics and support for the party.

He pointed out that since taking office, the NHC President has not issued a single statement addressing Ghana’s pressing issues, allowing the country to veer off course.

He accused President Akufo-Addo of manipulating Regional and National House of Chiefs’ elections by offering bribes to ensure they elect sympathisers of the NPP.
