“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth,” as stated in the book Revelations 3:15-16 is what the infamous quote made by President Akufo-Addo is sourced.
The only message President Akufo-Addo left in his address Sunday, October 30, 2022, that remains on the lips of many is his infamous “Sika mpɛ dede” which he said with the best of literature displayed on the night.
The President had sought to accuse speculators of the Cedi-dollar rate as the cause of the depreciation asking that people stop speaking ill of the currency.
But to the surprise of many, Captain Smart has disclosed the president goofed with the expression since it has nothing to do with noise making as he sought to relay.
Contrary to the statement which in English means “money does not like noise”, money as underscored by the Ace Broadcaster likes noise, thus “Sika pɛ dede”.
According to Smart who had given it as an assignment for the President to ask the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whenever he visited Manhyia, he later enlightened that the expression is “Sika mpɛ dɛɛdɛɛ” to wit money abhors lukewarmness”.
In his explanation, he said money as said in the scripture above either wants ostentation or reservedness but not anything in-between.
“And Nana Addo were you saying sika mpɛ dede? Who told you that? If money does not like noise, why do move around with a convoy of 40 vehicles? Whenever you go to Manhyia, ask Otumfuo how that expression is made and he will teach you,” he had said during his rants on the morning show Monday, October 30, 2022.
Meanwhile, during the press review session of the show, Captain Smart said the statement is “Sika mpɛ dɛɛdɛɛ”.
President Akufo-Addo’s explanation to the statement was meant to help stop the Cedi’s depreciation against the dollar.
“Fellow Ghanaians, as the French would say, l’argent n’aime pas le bruit, to wit, money does not like noise, sika mpɛ dede. Where there is chaos, where there is noise, where there is unrest, you will not find money. If you talk down your money, it will go down. If you allow some unidentifiable person to talk down your money, it will go down,” the President had said.
