Presidential nominee for the Chief Executive role for the Awutu Senya West district of the Central region, Moses Arhinful Acquah, has been rejected by the assembly members.

Mr. Acquah’s nomination follows the dismissal of 24 District Chief Executives (DCEs) by President Akufo-Addo two weeks ago which included the Awutu Senya West district DCE, Joseph Aidoo.

Akufo-Addo nominates new persons to replace sacked DCEs

A letter which followed later with list of nominated persons included Mr. Arhinful for the Awutu Senya West district.

During an assembly meeting to confirm him Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the 35 assembly members and government appointees of the district refused to confirm his nomination.

Some assembly members who spoke with Onua News’s Nana Yaw Asare said they were willing to confirm the nominee and voted a “YES” for his endorsement.

However, they allege the President’s appointees who are the nominee’s own people from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are the ones that disappointed him.

Mr. Acquah received 19 “YES” votes and 15 “NO” votes with one person abstaining. The outcome means the nominee did not receive the required number of votes needed for his confirmation as DCE.

“We did our best to confirm him so we voted “yes” but his own people, the government appointees from the NPP are the ones who rejected him. We hope he gets renominated in 10 days time so that we confirm him to start work for the progress of Awutu Senya West,” an assembly member indicated.
