Deputy Director Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer has clarified that the party has no issues with the Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal leaving his post to contest a parliamentary seat.

The former Legislature declared his intention to contest the Ayawaso East seat following the death of Naser Toure Mahama. He has since filed nominations and taken leave from his official government duty.

Since the declaration of his intent to contest the seat, many have raised concerns about his eligibility to contest while serving as a High Commissioner as well as his motive for wanting to return to Parliament.

But Rashid Tanko-Computer explained that the NDC’s current legislation does not bar Baba Jamal from contesting a seat while serving as a High Commissioner.

He noted in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, that the decision for Baba Jamal to step down before contesting the seat only lies with government and not the NDC.

“As a party, we have a regulation that we tease out from the party’s constitution. The current regulation that we are using to run the primaries doesn’t talk about the issue of government officials and High Commissioner’s and all that.

“So, the party does not have issues to do  That one is a decision of government not the party, for the party we have no issues at all,” he stated.
