The Minority has described the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government as a deceptive one, considering the fact that the document lacks details on the job creation promises of the government.

Leader of the Minority caucus, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, speaking after the budget presentation by the Finance Minister indicated that the statement’s silence on the much touted 24-hour economic policy which seeks to provide employment for the teeming youth of the country makes it deceptive, which he described in the parlance as ‘azaã’.

According to the Minority Leader, it is surprising that during the President was quiet on the policy during his State of the Nation Address (SoNA), for same to be repeated by the Finance Minister during the presentation of the budget to Parliament.

“Mr. Speaker, we have witnessed what we can best describe as an ‘azaã’ budget. Mr. Speaker, their own much talked about 24-hour economy, the President came here, he said it was not ready and again the Finance Minister comes here and again, the 24-hour economy is not included in his budget statement.

“The youth of this country have been waiting for this 24-hour economic policy. The Minister tells us the policy will be brought later. Mr. Speaker, it is clear that all the jobs they promised the youth of this country was merely an azaã promise,” he stated.
