A former Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has hinted that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has settled on a candidate which he will announce by end of June 2024.

Article 13 of the constitution of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) requires that the running mate to the flag bearer for a major election where the candidate is not the sitting president be announced 12 months prior to the poll.

But that for the 2024 elections was postponed in December 06, 2023, when the flag bearer pleaded with the National Council of the party to grant him some more time.

The party leadership had a meeting Wednesday, December 06, 2023, to finalise on the possible persons being considered for the position.

But at a press conference after the meeting, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced that the Vice President has asked for more time which has been granted by the National Council.

The Vice President who is the NPP’s flag bearer says he needs further consultations to arrive at a candidate to partner him for the 2024 polls.

According to Mr. Kodua, the Council has granted this request and is looking forward to a new date from the flag bearer.

But speaking with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Thursday, June 06, Nana Akomea stated that Dr. Bawumia would present the name by end of June.

Meanwhile, some names have popped up following rumours of persons who could be potentially picked.

Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum are among the favourites.
