Some parents seeking placement for their wards under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) have alleged that some individuals are demanding huge sums of money to secure schools for them.
The revelation came to light when Onua TV’s correspondent, Regina Akua Sarpomaa, engaged some parents at the Greater Accra Solution Centre at GNAT Hall on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
According to one parent, while there are vacancies in schools, some persons are demanding as high as GH¢17,000 before placement is secured.
“In Ghana, everything is about money. There are schools but before you’re given a school, they’ll ask you to pay GH¢17,000 before you’re going to be given a school for your ward,” she alleged.
When asked by Sarpomaa if she had personally been a victim, she said she had been approached by about four different persons with different charges.
“It has happened to me because I have applied through almost four people. Someone says I should pay GH¢7,000, another says I should pay GH¢10,000,” she said.
The parent said she is unsure whether those making the demands are affiliated to the Ghana Education Service (GES) or the Ministry of Education, as the messages sometimes pop up on their platforms.
“That is one thing I don’t know. It can come on your [WhatsApp] page to pay GH¢10,000+ and I’ve been asking if the laws in the education sector is still working,” she stated.
She also lamented the distance of her son’s placement, who was placed as a Day student far from his residence. “My son can’t move from Osu in Accra to school at Asante Akyem North as a Day student where there is nobody there,” she stated, calling on the leadership to sit up to curb the ongoing corruption.
“You don’t even know what is going on at the education centre. If the leadership doesn’t sit up, corruption is taking place because I can’t go and pay that amount before buying chop box and other things before my child goes to school,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has insisted the CSSPS placement is free and has cautioned parents against paying monies to any individual for placement.
