Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has assured parents and students that the government is taking steps to resolve challenges associated with the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) ahead of the reopening of Senior High Schools (SHSs).
The Minister said he will not hesitate to direct the Ghana Education Service (GES) to extend the reopening date if the outstanding challenges are not resolved before schools reopen on Friday, September 18, 2026.
Mr. Iddrisu made the remarks when he paid a working visit to the CSSPS placement centre in Accra on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to assess the progress of the placement exercise and the challenges being encountered by parents and students.
According to the Minister, more than 500,000 students have so far received placements through the computerized system, while efforts are ongoing to address other concerns.
He assured parents that the CSSPS team would continue working to ensure that qualified students are placed before the reopening date.
“The CSSPS team will attend to everyone before the reopening on the 18th of September. There is room for all of you. No student who is desirous and qualified will be denied access to secondary education,” Mr. Iddrisu said.
He acknowledged that there are challenges with the placement process but expressed confidence that they would be resolved.
“There are challenges, but they will be resolved. We will also not hesitate to tell the GES to extend the reopening date, but we are confident all these issues will be resolved,” he added.
The Education Minister has subsequently appealed to parents to remain calm and allow the authorities to address the concerns surrounding the placement process.
The government has maintained that every qualified student will be given the opportunity to access secondary education as the CSSPS team works to resolve outstanding placement issues.
