Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has admonished students to be disciplined as future leaders of the country.
He has advised that the future of Ghana belongs to them and urged them to allow themselves to be molded to become the best they can be, in order to steer the affairs of the state in future.
Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize ceremony in Ho on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Mr. Iddrisu noted that hard work combined with discipline is the surest means to secure the future of the nation.
The Tamale South lawmaker’s advice followed his caution to teachers not to take advantage of their students and abuse their rights, while urging the students to also be disciplined as they seek knowledge to become future leaders.
“Our students, behave. Teachers and your parents are molding your behaviour and molding your character. The future of Ghana is yours. But be disciplined with hard work, with integrity, the future will remain yours,” he stated.
The Minister’s admonition comes on the back of the dismissal of the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of the KNUST Senior High School, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, by the Ghana Education Service following a viral video that captured him and a female student in a compromising position.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 29, 2025, the GES said its attention had been drawn to the video circulating on social media where it said it views the matter with “utmost seriousness” and has taken immediate steps in line with its commitment to safeguarding students.
“Mr Aidoo has already been removed from office, and prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being carried out,” the statement, signed by GES Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, said.
GES assured parents, stakeholders and the public that due process would be followed.
“The appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the code of conduct of the Ghana Education Service,” it added.
The service also said it’s dedicated to protecting the safety and well-being of students across the country.
“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students,” the statement said.
