Ghana’s senior national women’s soccer team, the Black Queens, suffered a 0-1 defeat to Zambia’s Copper Queens in the first leg of the final qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games.

A first half goal by Rachel Kundananji became the match winner at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, February 23.

Before this encounter, Nora Häuptle’s side had lost only one game since she took over as coach.

It was the Zambians who dictated play in the first half, beating Ghana goalie Victoria Antwi-Agyei in the 18th minute.

The Black Queens approached the second half more seriously, pressing their opponents for the equaliser.

It, however, did not come.

They hit the post on a couple of occasions.

But the South Africans held on to get the much-needed advantage going into Wednesday’s second leg.
