The Upper East Regional branch of former residents of Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana known as the ‘Vivacious, Affable, Neighborly, Devoted, Altruistic, and Loyal (VANDAL) have initiated moves to contribute and mobilize funds for the full establishment of the ongoing renal dialysis centre of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.

The Vandals made this known during a ceremony to confer a lifetime Patron honour on COP Patrick Akolgo (Rtd.), a dedicated member of the Vandals in the region and a former Director of Finance of the Ghana Police Service.

Patients diagnosed with kidney issues in the region largely rely on the renal dialysis centre in Tamale which is a huge cost to them and their families.

COP Akolgo who was thankful to the entire Vandal fraternity in the region for making him their lifetime patron said “the Renal Dialysis Centre in this region is dear to my heart and it is something I want to see achieved throughout my life. This is not new to me because I was part of the management team of the Police Hospital in Accra who initiated and established one of the best dialysis centres in the country.”

COP Akolgo added that “this is the time we (Vandals) can show love to our region by making the dialysis centre a reality and novelty.”

The former Director of Finance of the Ghana Police Service presented an amount of GHC 10,000 as seed money for the fundraising campaign for the project.

The spiritual leader of Vandals in the region, Alhaji Abdul Razak Rahman eulogized their lifetime patron for his immense contributions to society including philanthropic activities undertaken by the revered former police officer.

Mr. Abdul Razak said the ‘Lifetime’ conferred on COP Akolgo (Rtd.) is something the Vandals are proud of and they as members will continue to give him the necessary support to steer the affairs of the Association in the region.

The regional president of Vandals, Raymond Ayine said the lifetime achievement of the COP Rtd has helped develop many sectors of the economy in the region and the dialysis centre of the regional hospital which they hope to achieve by December 2023.

When completed, the centre in the Upper East region will receive patients from the region, parts of the North East region, and neighbouring Burkina Faso.
