Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST) has donated over 11,000 exercise books and supplementary reading materials to six schools in Akosombo, located in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The recipient schools include Atimpoku RC Basic School, Atimpoku L/A Junior High School, and four other schools in the area. This donation is part of BOST’s nationwide initiative to distribute educational materials, with a target of 100,000 items to be shared with schools across the country.

Mr. Yaw Antwi Dadzie, BOST’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, explained that the donation is part of the company’s CSR activities for the year, specifically aimed at schools in communities impacted by BOST’s operations.

“The communities surrounding our depots are our primary focus, and we ensure these schools receive the support they need,” he said.

“We’ve already distributed educational materials in Kumasi, Savulugu, Buipe, Debre, and Bolgatanga. The Akosombo area is the latest, with 11,000 books and 2,000 supplementary readers being distributed. We are committed to ensuring that all community schools near our depots have the necessary resources to enhance their educational experience,” Mr. Dadzie added.

Since the initiative began, BOST has distributed approximately 80,000 educational materials to schools in impacted communities. The decision to provide these materials follows a needs-based assessment conducted by the company two years ago.

In addition to this initiative, BOST is running a GH₵1.5 million scholarship program for 50 students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), pursuing various engineering programs. Each scholarship includes a laptop, a stipend, and other necessary support.

BOST is also committed to sustainability, with ongoing tree-planting initiatives to help reduce its carbon footprint.

Positive Impact on Schools

The head teacher of Atimpoku RC Basic School expressed gratitude for the timely donation, noting that many students in the area often lack exercise books, which affects their ability to participate in class assessments.

“Teaching and learning rely on assessment, but some of our students have been unable to give feedback due to a lack of exercise books. This donation is going to make a huge difference in our ability to track and improve student performance,” he said.

He also appealed for continued support, explaining that each student typically needs around 15 exercise books for effective learning.

“Some students don’t even come to school because they don’t have books. This donation will help them stay in school and fully participate in lessons,” he added.

The head teacher of Atimpoku L/A Junior High School also expressed appreciation for the support, saying it would significantly aid teaching and learning.

“Some of our students come to school without exercise books. With this donation, every student will receive at least five exercise books, which will help ensure they can complete their class exercises,” he said. The school has around 240 students, and many of them previously faced challenges due to a lack of basic learning materials.

Looking Ahead

BOST’s support for these schools reflects its long-term commitment to community development and education. The company continues to prioritize initiatives that directly benefit the communities where it operates, ensuring that students have the resources they need to succeed.
