A 2-year-old boy Lawer Sedzefa has drowned to death in a manhole at Asampa Down, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East municipality of the Central region.

His 9-month-old mother has collapsed at the sight of the lifeless body of the 2-year-old boy.

Asempa Down Zonal NADMO Coordinator, Christopher Appiah says the young boy was playing on the compound when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to him, there is a weak thin slab on a part of the manhole whilst the other part is covered with a plywood. The little boy whilst playing on the compound stepped on the plywood and fell into the manhole.

He revealed also that, the manhole according to the landlord serves a a tenant who is a pastor, his whereabouts they can’t tell for now, and failed to cover it well.

An aunt to the deceased, Happy Sedzefa indicated she was called by the sister that her son was missing where she was heading to the house to mount a search for him.On his way to the house, she received another call that the lifeless body of the boy has retrieved from the manhole making his mother collapse upon seeing him.

The lifeless body has been deposited at the St Gregory Hospital whilst investigation is ongoing by the Kasoa New Market Police station.
