A man believed to be in his 40s has been killed and dumped in front of a church at Afrangua in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

The man, Onua News’s Nana Yaw Asare reports, was tied in a white sack and deposited in front of the Afrangua Catholic church on Monday, April 22, 2024.

An eyewitness says they didn’t know the sack contained a human body until it started emitting odour in the area.

Some residents opened the sack to see the lifeless body of the deceased in the sack, with his eyes and ears infested with maggots.

The residents have suspected the man was killed elsewhere and deposited at the church’s premises.

The Assemblyman of Afrangua Electoral area, Issah Alhassan, speaking with Onua News indicated that the deceased was not a resident of the area.

Disclosing that that was the first time such an incident has occurred, the Assemblyman said fear and panic has gripped the residents over the incident.

“Mostly when thieves are beaten to death, you see that their clothes get torn and you see the  bruises on their body but this wasn’t like that. All his body parts are intact. Fear and panic have gripped people because people pass here at dawn so we need some illumination on the way to help us see whatever goes on,” he said in Twi.

Meanwhile, Police officers from Saltpond, together with Mfantseman Environmental Health Officer deposited the body at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The family of the deceased is yet to be identified. No arrests had been made as at the time this report was being filed.
