The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the behaviour of some players and officials during the final of the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During the final between Senegal and Morocco, a penalty awarded the hosts after an earlier disallowed goal led to a boycott by Senegalese players and officials.

They later returned, however, to complete the game, which they won by 1-0.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, CAF described the behaviour as “unacceptable” and “inappropriate”.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers,” it said, adding: “CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.”

Match officials have been targeted for online abuse at this year’s AFCON.

Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea came under attack after the semi-final game between Morocco and Nigeria with some fans of the Super Eagles calling for his ban.
