A social commentator and youth activist, Ivan Innocent Kyei, has condemned the recent chaos that marred the vetting of ministerial nominees in Parliament.

Vetting on Thursday, January 30, 2025 was halted after members on the Minority caucus objected to the vetting of more nominees saying they had already exceeded the number they were supposed to access on the day.

The disturbances led to the destruction of tables and microphones which were being used by the Members of Parliament to carry out the process.

A section of the public has condemned the development with many blaming the Ranking Member, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, as being the architect of the chaos.

Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye on Tuesday, February 04, 2025, Kyei indicated that instead of the Appointments Committee accessing the nominees’ competence, they have turned it into an avenue to settle personal political scores.

He says “the vetting has become a revenge theatre” that’s why some members, particularly the Ranking Member, could spend three hours questioning a nominee on issues many have deemed frivolous.

The youth activist has indicated that citizens have now become “stakeholders” of the governance rather than earlier where people were mere “spectators monitoring the stage.”

He highlighted on the fact that respect is reciprocal and that if the lawmakers want Ghanaians to accord them the respect they need, they should first accord the public with same.

Kyei argued that the Minority feels they have been tagged as a “micro Minority” and wants to puts up an act that depicts them as a “mighty Minority”, the reason they have resorted to putting up certain deeds which are unworthy of Members of Parliament.
