One person has died following a domestic fire outbreak at Mempeasem near the Railway Station Quarters, Assin Foso, in the early hours of Thursday, January 8, 2026.

This is contained in a press release by the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dated January 9.

“The fire, reported at 0632 hours, involved a kitchen and storeroom and spread to a Renault Duster salon car and a wooden kiosk.

A man in his thirties, known as Kwabena Effutu, was burnt to death, and his badly charred body was handed over to the Police for conveyance to the St. Francis Xavier Morgue,” DO II Wasiu Abdul Hudu wrote in the press release.

“Firefighters responded promptly and extinguished the fire by 0640 hours, preventing its spread to nearby structures.

The kitchen and its contents, as well as the Renault Duster salon car, were salvaged from total destruction. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire,” he said.

In another development, a44-year-old man has died after falling from a storey building at the community center in Abuesi, Shama District.

Assembly Member for the area, Enock Arthur, told Connect News that he received a distressing call early morning on January 8, 2026, reporting a horrifying incident at the community center. Upon arrival, he found the man lying dead in a pool of blood.

The staircase, part of the still-under-construction community center, is lined with tires for safety. However, the Assembly member suspects the tires’ slippery surface may have caused the fatal fall.

Frank, who hailed from the area, leaves behind one child but no wife.

Police have commenced investigations, and the body has been deposited at St. Edward’s Mortuary.

In response, Assembly Member Arthur has implemented immediate safety measures to protect community members w
