Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of the Committee probing the Dampare leaked tape over the alleged plot to oust the IGP as captured on the tape has denied the release of its report saying they are yet to finalise on it.

This comes on the back of rumours suggesting that the report has been released and submitted to the Presidency. It also comes with a circular on social media purporting to be the report.

Mr. Atta Akyea has said the committee is still doing some parliamentary engagements to ensure fairness in the report, the reason they have delayed in releasing it. He says the document would be laid before the plenary once the engagements are completed.

“A lot of things have happened, and we don’t want to come and give excuses for why we are late in bringing the report. It is just about to be concluded, and then the committee will converge to look at it and ensure an understanding that nobody has been shortchanged before putting it before plenary. I do not know how anybody will say that the report is with the president—a report that the committee has not even reviewed,” he indicated.

The Abuakwa South MP also debunked the assertion that the report has delayed as a result of some security breaches that came up during the probe.

“There are no national security considerations at all because, at the end of the day, we had an in-camera hearing. We were able to distinguish what was important and what was not. The only thing I will say is that there have been a lot of intervening matters, including the budget. It is not easy to get all the members of the committee to converge on a matter of such significance because no chairman will want to bring a report that will be tagged a one-man report,” he explained on Accra-based Citi FM Tuesday, January 09, 2024.

Parliament constituted a seven-member committee to probe a tape which contained voices of some top police officers planning the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

This was to get him replaced by an officer aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party to make it easier for them to rig the 2024 elections.

Samuel Atta Akyea was tasked to chair the committee to investigate the contents of the tape.
