Social commentator and legal practitioner, Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers, has kicked against the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) dismissal of Black Stars Head Coach, Nana Otto Addo.
He believes the coach was denied the needed support to deliver on his mandate. “We fired the employee but we didn’t provide the employee with the requisite tools.”
Speaking on the BigIssue segment on the NewDay morning show on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, he said the players, looking at their demeanour on the field, have not been inspiring.
“If you look at our players, there is nothing enthusiastic about their play. The one they played yesterday happens to be the only one I felt they were pushing up. And I feel if there is anything, we shouldn’t have dismissed Otto Addo,” he stated.
According to him, Ghana has only two months to prepare for the FIFA World Cup, and there is no guarantee that the GFA is going to get a better replacement for the German-born Ghanaian coach before the tournament.
Brako-Powers believe Otto Addo started a project and should have been given the time to complete it, rather than being ousted like it did.”…because he has started a project and it will take a while. These are young players, many of them have not even played for the national team before and they are now coming together to make sure that they bond,” he stated asking if Management of the national team believe they will get a perfect replacement for him before the biggest global sporting event in June.”Dismissing him and thinking that in a space of two months, you’ll be able to get a messiah to help us to play?” he quizzed.
The GFA’s sacking of the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach follows Ghana’s defeats in two of their pre–World Cup friendly matches against Austria and Germany in March.
In a statement confirming the decision, the Ghana FA said: “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”
Otto Addo’s departure marks another significant change in the technical setup of the national team as Ghana continues its preparations ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.
I don’t really care, even when we qualified people wanted me sacked – Otto Addo
