The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, not to let the party’s flag bearer regret choosing him.
According to the Otumfuo, whom Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, is related to, he is surprised over the arrogant tags on the Energy Minister since he was not like that growing up.
The Asantehene says he does not want NAPO to affirm the assertion of arrogance about him following his selection and confirmation as running mate to the Vice President.
This advice comes on the back of claims that, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is arrogant, an assertion that comes as a surprise to the Asantehene, who says NAPO was not arrogant when he was being nurtured.
He gave the advice at a mini durbar at the Manhyia Palace Tuesday, July 09, 2024, when President Akufo-Addo introduced both the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to him.
“I have advised him indoors but I want to say it again, that don’t let Bawumia regret choosing you,” the Asantehene said.
“Follow him with humility. Do what he will tell you. A lot of people are saying you are arrogant but you were not like that at home. So don’t let what they have been saying be confirmed,” he added.
He also counseled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to take care of him and report to him whenever he goes astray, so that he Otumfuo will rebuke him himself.
“Bawumia, I have given you my grandchild, if he goes astray, let me know and I will reproach him myself in closed doors,” said the overlord of the Asante Kingdom.
