The Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has urged the Muslim community in the country to cast their ballot for the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He says this is an opportunity the NPP is giving for a Muslim to become President in Ghana since it has never happened in the nation’s history.

According to the Majority Leader, the Christian community is ready to vote for Dr. Bawumia, and has therefore admonished the Muslim public to back them to ensure the NPP provides the nation the first President who is a Muslim.

Speaking at the Agona West campaign launch in the Central Region Sunday, September 08, 2024, at the Agona Swedru main station, the Member of Parliament urged the gathering not to allow the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to deceive them.

“Our Muslim brethren here, I’m telling you something and I want you to listen carefully. Since Ghana’s independence, we’ve not gotten any Muslim who has had the opportunity to be President.

“Today, we the NPP are going giving a Muslim the opportunity to become President. We the Christians are ready to vote for him. Are you Muslims also ready to vote for him? Don’t allow the NDC to deceive you to let this chance pass you by because if you miss this opportunity, you don’t know when it would come again,” he urged the party faithful gathered at the campaign launch.

He called on the supporters to be united and vote for the Vice President to become President after the December polls.

“So, we all should be one; Christians, Muslims and say we are voting for our father, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
