Rather than blaming the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) entirely for the ongoing power outages otherwise known as ‘dumsor’, a Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, is absolving the Company.

“I heard people blaming the ECG. It is not the ECG per se,” he noted.

Laying much emphasis on the ECG’s debts to industry players which has contributed to the ongoing dumsor, the Wa Central Member of Parliament alluded parts of the challenge to “lack of responsibility, poor management, lack of commitment, poor management of our power systems and our inability to pay for what we are consuming.”

The ECG, according to Mr. Pelpuo, owes US$3 billion to Ghana Gas and the Independent Power Producers, crippling the government’s ability to fuel its plants to keep the energy production on course.

He tells Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight Tuesday, April 23, 2024, that the government’s refusal to accept responsibility for the ongoing power rationing should is disrespect to the Ghanaian people.

“Maybe you are not aware, right now we owe so much. The ECG owes US$1.2 billion to Ghana Gas, US$1.8 billion to Independent Power Producers and we all know this and you’re telling us different stories, it is disrespect to the people that voted for you to supervise the institutions that can make our lives comfortable,” he spoke his mind.
