Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has condemned the government for failing to take responsibility for the failures in its administration.

The Wa Central Member of Parliament says the government’s attitude towards the problems of the country since assuming power, doesn’t show respect to the people that voted them into office.

Commenting on the recent power outages in the country, the MP said the NPP government’s intentions not to accept blame, but appropriate the reasons to non-existing factors, shows the lack of commitment and responsibility on the part of leadership.

Billed to speak on zoom on TV3’s Ghana Tonight Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the interview had to be delayed because of power outage otherwise known as dumsor.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), had, however, attributed the outage to the Tuesday morning rains which the lawmaker described as ridiculous.

Reacting to the ECG’s statement, the legislator said “this is ridiculous, absurd, it just shows the type of character this government has brought into our political and economic governance. A government that never accepts responsibility for anything. For our failure to maintain a good economy, it is Covid or it is because of the war in Russia and Ukraine. Now there is power shortage, [and government says] “it is because there are some repairs going on, it’s not dumsor”.

“I think this is not the kind of responsibility the government should demonstrate,” he added.

Meanwhile, there have been calls for the sacking of the Energy Minister for his nonchalant attitude towards the matter.

A call by the Institute of Economic Studies (IES) says the Minister does not deserve the office looking at its critical nature and his posture to Ghanaians who demanded for a timetable.
