Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured Ghanaians that the intermittent power outages otherwise known as ‘dumsor’ will soon be a thing of the past.

He says from the assurances he has had from the Energy Minister, he is certain the challenge would soon be resolved to bring relief to Ghanaians.

Speaking to the Clergy and Imams at Akropong as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region Monday, April 29, 2024, the New Patriotic Party’s flag bearer was confident that his government was going to address the matter soon.

“I know there are challenges and I don’t want to paper over economic challenges. We are going to work on them. Currently, we have issues with power but I say that from the information I have received from the minister for energy, those power challenges will very soon, and I mean very soon be a thing of the past,” the vice president said.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) which distributes power to Ghanaians has come under heavy criticism from customers, following the recent load-shedding experience, especially for their failure to provide a timetable as a guide for people to plan their activities.

When Ghanaians demanded for a timetable, the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, said they wish evil for the state by demanding for timetable, and asked those requesting for the schedule to provide their own timetables.

The Ghana Union of Traders Association is the latest group to call on the ECG for a load-shedding timetable that will guide their operations.

The state power distributor has maintained that the current challenge does not require a load-shedding timetable since it is a temporary challenge which is going to be resolved soon.
