The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has hinted of a nationwide clampdown on vehicles using expired DV plates and DP stickers effective today, Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The exercise will be carried in connection with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service.
The DVLA, in a public notice issued on Monday, March 23, 2026, indicated that the Authority had to extend the use of the old DV plates and DP stickers temporarily because of the delays in rolling out the new vehicle license plates.
It explains that following the release of the 2026 DV plates on February 4, 2026, to motor traders, fleet owners, and licensed trade plate dealers, the continuous use of the old plates and expired DP stickers is now illegal.
According to the Authority, the DV plate usage is regulated under Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which specifies the types of vehicles permitted to use them. Vehicle owners whose cars do not fall into these categories are required to complete proper registration under the law.
Also, the DVLA noted stated that its offices across the country have been registering vehicles for 2026 since January 2, urging motorists to comply with the regulations to avoid penalties during the enforcement exercise.
