Three persons have died with 28 others sustaining various degrees of life threatening injuries after a school bus they were travelling in veered into a valley on the Somanya – Aprede highway in the Okere District of the Eastern Region.

The University of Education bus they were travelling in was taking them on an educational tour at Mt. Afadjato in the Volta Region when the unfortunate incident happened.

It is unclear which institution the students belong to, but the school bus had an inscription of the University of Education, Winneba on it.

The victims are currently receiving care at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital whilst five of them have been referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital.

The hospital Administrator, Belinda Kafui Mawutor, confirmed the incident and said their condition have been stabilised.

“Three are dead now, five referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital, 28 have been stabilised and receiving care at our facility.”
