The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested two students in connection with a confirmed gang rape of a female senior high school student near the Koforidua Sports Stadium during the inter-school competition.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief inspector Bridget Opoku said they are currently on a manhunt for a third accomplice, who is reportedly an old student.

“I can confirm that we have arrested two students, we gather a third person who is an old student is an accomplice. He is currently on the run we will get him arrested,” she said.

Meanwhile, the victim is receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition at the Eastern Regional Central Hospital.

“The Police have visited the hospital to confirm with medical personnel, indeed there was a gang rape. Thankfully she is in stable condition and recovering.”

A section of Senior High Students has been engaged in inter-school competition for the past three days from Wednesday to Friday at three venues, Koforidua Sports stadium, Koforidua Senior High Technical School and Pope John Seminary and Senior High School.

A stabbing incident has been confirmed also, during the activity as one student was also stabbed at the back on Thursday outside the stadium unconnected to the sporting activities but from old school rivalry.

Teachers and students are shocked at the incidents and its implications on other students and sporting competitions.
