The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting to resolve the ongoing strike action.

The meeting, scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, was contained in a press statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by its Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed.

According to the statement, the meeting is “to engage in constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the ongoing strike action.”

The Ministry said “Government remains committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.”

It also called “on all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, mindful of the impact of the ongoing industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.”

The statement added that “Government urges the leadership of GAUA to seize this opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with the relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the impasse.”

Government, it said, “remains hopeful that the meeting will yield a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions.”

Meanwhile, the ongoing strike has necessitated a postponement of reopening by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana (UG), with new reopening dates to be announced in due course.
