Kwasi Nti, a former Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party NPP in the Fomena constituency of the Ashanti region has confirmed he received  GH₵1million from the Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.

His comment comes on the back of claims made by the MP who is seeking to become flagbearer of the ruling NPP, Kennedy Agyapong, to the effect that he singlehandedly won the party the Majority position in Parliament after the 2020 polls presented each party with 137 MPs apiece.

The Independent MP who was ousted from the NPP few months to the 2020 polls contested on his own and won, and decided to align with his former party on the condition that his constituency chairman resigned.

The Chairman, Mr. Nti, who says he owed a bank GH₵1.5million also said his only collateral to walk as a free man for owing the rural bank was his position as constituency Chairman for the party.

Hence he needed the party to pay him the sum before he resigned. However, the party failed to do so until Ken Agyapong singlehandedly came to the rescue.

He told Kumasi-based OtecFM Monday, April 17, 2023, that he demanded some GH¢2million from the party to settle a debt he incurred as the party’s Chairman before he officially steps down.

“I was hesitant to give in to their demands after several calls on me because the NPP did not fulfill the promise they made even after my resignation they still did not give me the amount they pledged.

“It took the aspiring presidential candidate of the NPP Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to privately give me GH¢1million to defray my debt and I can assure you this gesture saved the NPP from major legal tussle,” he declared.
