A first-half strike by Francis Gyetuah ensured that FC Samartex 1996 returned to the top of the Ghana Premier League.

It was a match against regional rivals and champions Medeama SC at home.

The Western Derby at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena attracted lots of spectators as the league leaders until Friday hosted the defending champions, who were returning to domestic football after a disappointing campaign in the CAF Champions League.

Having lost only once at home this season, FC Samartex ensured that the Nsenkyire Sports Arena became a fortress once again, not conceding against the Yellow and Mauves on Sunday, April 7.

Gyetuah’s strike became the winner eventually.

The result sends FC Samartex back to the top with 45 points overtaking Nations FC, who went top on Friday after beating Great Olympics.
