A fire has broken out behind the VVIP Station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The fire has affected several shops which served as warehouses for phone accessories and other items.

Other structures which served as homes and shops for selling food were also affected by the fire.

Details about the cause of the fire and whether there are any injuries remain unclear at this time.

Assistant Fire Officer Nisawu Rashid Kwame in an interview with the media confirmed that the fire outbreak begun from one of the ‘kiosks.’

“We have five fire engines here including a private tanker. Some have gone to replenish about two or three times and they are here.

“We are told and confirmed that it started from a kiosk but as to what caused the fire in the kiosk we are yet to investigate further,” he stated.

“You can see cooking utensils, you can see cylinders that have been used and these are all signs that domestic activities have been going on here,” he added.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have confined the fire and brought the situation under control.
