Reports reaching 3news.com is that fire has gutted shops at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, popularly known as ‘Circle’ in Accra.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service are said to have rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control.

The fire, which is reported to have started in the evening of January 2, emitted plumes of black smoke into the atmosphere, which could be seen from far away.

Personnel of the GNFS arrived with four fire engines and stationed them at strategic points around the blaze in order to control the spread.

The shops in that area that caught fire are said to deal in electronic items and clothing.

According to eyewitnesses, because of the combustible nature of materials that are being sold there, the fire spread so fast.

“We just saw smoke coming from one of the containers, and within minutes, the whole line was on fire,” a worried trader narrated. “The wind made it worse, and before we knew it, the fire had caught up with the next building.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be identified.

Meanwhile the fire officers have asked members of the public to stay away from the fire scene to prevent death from buildings that may collapse
