Former Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC), Ofosu Asamoah, has called on government to urgently constitute the Commission to help facilitate efforts to resolve the ongoing teachers’ strike.

Speaking on GhanAkoma on Akoma 87.9 FM, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Asamoah said the NLC should, at this stage, be actively involved in efforts to bring the dispute between government and the teacher unions to an end.

“At this point, the NLC should be stepping in to help resolve the matter. Unfortunately, the government is yet to constitute the Commission,” he said.

According to him, the National Labour Commission is the body mandated under Ghana’s labour framework to determine whether a strike is lawful or unlawful.

He therefore urged government to, as a matter of urgency, ensure that the Commission is fully constituted and functional so it can effectively perform its mandate.

Ofosu Asamoah further called on government to honour its outstanding commitments to the teachers as part of efforts to bring the strike to an end.

The teachers’ strike, which has disrupted academic activities in schools, has continued amid calls for government and the various teacher unions to return to the negotiating table and find a lasting resolution to the impasse.
