Veteran coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong, popularly known as JE Sarpong, says no white coach can lead the Black Stars to win an Africa Cup of Nations.

“There is no white man who will come to this country to win the Cup [of Nations] for Ghana,” he stressed.

“Anybody whose skin is red can never win the [African] Cup for us. I am telling you this fact.”

Coach JE Sarpong made this daring statement on Onua Sports Center

on Onua FM on Tuesday, January 23.

He was speaking in the aftermath of the poor showing of the Black Stars at the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The former Black Stars coach said the team needs a total overhaul in order to turn around its fortunes.

For the second consecutive time, the Black Stars exited the group stage of a Cup of Nations without winning any match.

The team was led in La Côte d’Ivoire by Chris Hughton, who has since been relieved of his role by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The most disastrous campaign by the team, in 2022, was led by Serbian Milovan Rajevac.

Curiously, Ghana’s four titles were won b y local coaches – three by the late CK Gyamfi and the last by late Fred Osam Duodu.
