Ghana have moved up eight places in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their opening FIFA World Cup victory over Panama, with the Black Stars now ranked 65th in the world.
The rise from 73rd globally comes after Ghana secured a 1-0 win over Panama in their opening Group L fixture, earning three valuable points on the global stage. The result marked a positive start to Ghana’s World Cup campaign and has reflected positively on their position in the updated rankings.
The Black Stars entered the tournament looking to make a strong statement after a period of rebuilding and have been rewarded with a significant jump in the FIFA standings. The improvement also highlights the impact of securing results at major international competitions, where ranking points are heavily influenced by competitive matches.
Ghana’s latest movement continues their long-standing presence as one of Africa’s recognised football nations. The Black Stars have a proud World Cup history, having reached the quarter-finals in 2010, and have featured in multiple editions of the tournament since their debut in 2006.
The win over Panama also provided a platform for Ghana’s new generation of players, including forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, who set up the youngest player of the squad Caleb Yirenkyi for the winner.
The latest FIFA rankings place Ghana among the improving teams after their tournament-opening performance, with the team aiming to build momentum in their remaining group matches.
The Black Stars added 33.83 points to increase their overall tally to 1380.71 on the latest FIFA rankings.
Ghana will take on England on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in their next group game before battling Croatia in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
