Ghana has been selected as the host country for the next edition of the African Athletics Championships.

The next edition, which will be the 24th in the history of the biennial event, will come off in 2026.

The decision to hand Ghana the hosting rights was taken on Friday by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) at its Executive Council meeting in Douala, Cameroon.

The south-west coastal city of Cameroon is hosting this year’s edition of the competition.

Ghana was highly praised for the successful hosting of the athletics event during the 2023 African Games held in Accra.

The Mondo tracks at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium hosted the track events with the field events held at the same stadium.

As a result, it is highly likely the 24th AAC will be held at that venue.
