Ghana has finally won the Jollof ‘War’ at the 3FM Afro Connect Festival 3.0 edition held on September 21, 2024 at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra with Chef Francis (Culinary Expert) and Chef Fyaa (CEO of Fyaa Kitchen) as the representatives.
A total of seven countries took part in the fiercely fought Jollof ‘War’ with Senegal coming 2nd, Togo taking 3rd place, and Mali occupying the fourth position. The other contenders were Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Gabon.
Until the next winner is crowned in 2025, Ghana enjoys the bragging rights as the supreme ruler of Africa’s Jollof. Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone are the winners of the first and second editions of the Jollof War respectively.
The annual event organized by 3FM 92.7 MHz to commemorate the birth anniversary of Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah, as usual was marked with great excitement and education as participating countries and patrons shared experiences and unique cultures amidst trade exhibitions showcasing spices, fashion, artworks, culinary delights and several products from different African countries.
Patrons were thrilled with the colourful display of indigenous music and dances from Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana and across Africa, as well as live band performances by the Ack Band and 3FM DJs. Also, on display were live painting and pottery.
Head of Channel at 3FM, Lois Kissiedu in her welcome address stressed that as a family and culture centered media house, 3FM will continue to promote the goodness and richness of the African continent by fostering unity and cooperation among Africans.
The Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Mrs. Rosemary Mbabazi, Presidential Candidate of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, Managing Director of CFAO Ghana PLC Adedamola Adelabu, Chiefs of the Igbo community in Ghana, Representatives from Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) and members of the Diplomatic Community in Ghana graced the occasion.
Winners of the Jollof War and other competitive activities as well as other lucky patrons received enviable prices and souvenirs from sponsors of the event; Flora Tissue, Frytol, Fidelity Bank, Hylife Beverages, Affinity, Tasty Tom and Bills Micro-Credit.
