Kobina Tahir (K.T) Hammond, a former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti region, has urged Ghanaians to vote for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028.

He believes the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, who seeks retention for 2028, is the only person who can alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians, warning of dire consequences if Bawumia isn’t elected as Ghana’s next President.

K.T. Hammond, who served as Minister of Trade and Industry in the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration, says Bawumia possesses the leadership qualities, making him the most competent person to lead Ghana if given the mandate.

The former legislator was speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s tour of the Ashanti region on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, where he dismissed claims that the former Veep cannot be President, particularly because he is a Muslim.

He said it is “madness” for anyone to think Bawumia cannot ascend the highest office of the land because of his religious background.

“Have you monitored Bawumia’s capabilities and hard work? It’s madness to say Bawumia is a Muslim, so he can’t be a President. We will suffer if Bawumia is not elected as President,” he stated.

Hammond has urged Ghanaians to prioritise the competences and commitment of people in choosing a leader for Ghana, rather than concentrating on the person’s religion.
