Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee member, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has taken the Vice President of IMANI-Africa to the cleaners over his allegation that Ghana is losing some 1.5 billion dollars in the GNPC Genser gas supply deal.

KT Hammond thinks the publication from IMANI about the supposed wastage was premature and a scheme of machination from a cabal who lack understanding of the fundamentals of the deal.

The Adansi Asokwa legislator is of the view that deals of such enormity must accompany clear and proper understanding of the details when publications of criticism are being made about them in order not to create an enmity between the state and some individuals.

Speaking to journalists after the Mines and Energy meeting with the GNPC, KT Hammond, not mincing words described Bright Simons and the African Centre for Energy Policy as a cabal who do not mean well for the country.

He described the allegations as lacking merits of the facts and being unduly sensational.

“I don’t think it’s a good thing for any think tank worthy of its name to do things like that.

“In the end the allegation is that genser is going to rip off the country to the tune of ₵1.5 billion…you see, this is sensational stuff. It’s not a good thing.

“We met with GNPC which is supposed to entered into what they call it, sweetheart whatever…deal, so I admit uncomfortable, it’s so abhorring, you make the thing sound like the world is coming to an end. I mean there is nothing in it. I mean to the extent that we were able to interrogate the matters today…. in the end you begin to take matters slightly.

“IMANI or whatever people got this publication into the public domain without really checking the facts. It’s essential when you start putting into public domain such a high voltage matters you should be clear about the foundational basis about the kind of matters that you make. They go and buy the gas at 98 figures from where and they sell it at…they don’t even understand the foundation for this.

“We are watching. We know about the individuals who are doing all sorts of things. There are people who are colluding. It’s a machination, it’s a cabal group of people who are making sure that …there are people who don’t wish others well I don’t think that’s right,” he fumed.
