The youth of Gomoa Assin in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region are living in fear and panic after some youth stormed the community to fire live ammunition.

The residents have suspected that the invaders were land guards who were sent by the Omanhene of Akyempim traditional area, Obrefo Ahonako Ankobea II.

Onua News’s Central regional correspondent, Nana Yaw Asare, has reported that the rites which were being performed to change the name of the traditional area from “Akyempim” to “Gomoa” traditional area resulted in the gunshots.

The youth have alleged that the Omanhene sent the gun wielding young men to cause mayhem in the community, something they cannot come to terms with.

They have therefore given the Odikro of Gomoa Assin a one-week ultimatum to explain to them why he has allowed the Omanhene to cause disturbances in the community.

Instead of such disturbances in the town, they have rather admonished the Odikro to champion causes that will bring development to the area.

Meanwhile, the Gyaasehene of Gomoa Assin traditional area, Nana Kwamina Kwan ll, denied the firing of live ammunition saying and called for calm in the area. He has assured the youth of the traditional council’s resolve to investigate the matter to bring peace in the area.

“I don’t believe those who came here were land guards because they are the Omanhene’s chief security. If truly we are talking about land guards, we the chiefs are land guards because we have been given the lands and we custodians. We will not allow any of them to be hurt because without our residents, we are nothing. The gunshots indeed took place because in most of our customs, we fire gunshots and these are not live bullets but gun powder. This one has become problematic due to something and we are going to ensure everything is resolved,” he assured.
