Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has said that government has invested over GHC6 billion in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) since 2017.
Dr Bawumia said the investment is to make the study of TVET very competitive.
He was speaking at the launch of the Ghana apprenticeship programme in Accra on March 13.
The Vice President recounted the gap in the development of TVET for the past years and recalled that before 2017, the number of students enrolled to study TVET was 20,000 students annually.
However, from 2017, more than 100, 000 students have joined the TVET space.
He announced that to further improve on technical and vocational training, government through the Commission of Technical, Vocational and Education Training (CTVET) has rolled out an apprenticeship programme.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who facilitated the roll out of the programme said, government has earmarked GHC800 million to spearhead the apprenticeship programme.
The Director-General of CTVET, Dr. Fred Asamoah underscored the relevance of the TVET to the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.
Other speakers from the German Embassy and the World Bank pledged adequate support to government of Ghana in achieving growth in TVET.
